5.0 Game Overhaul: In Progress


I wanted everyone to know that patch 5.0 is still being worked on and wanted to touch base with plans for the game as I'm doing some major changes. 5.0 is going to be a major overhaul from a 2D system to 2.5D. More on that a few paragraphs down.

Storywise, I'm going to be modifying and adding story elements based off player feedback.  Battles also are going to be more scripted and refined to step away from more RNG fights. The Quest System and menus will be focused on as well to add more content to the game. I'm also overhauling game systems and doing improvement throughout the game to make a more enjoyable experience.

As I said, 5.0 is going to be a complete overhaul of the game and completely converts the entirety of the game to 2.5D. Instead of having flat 2D textures for everything, most of the maps will be done with 3D models overlaid with 2D meshes. Additionally, I will be having the camera default as an isometric view similar to BOF 3 and 4;however, the camera controls are customizable for the players' preference.

Because this version of the game is going to be so different than the 4.1B top-down, I will be leaving 4.1B game uploaded for those who prefer the original over the changes that I am doing.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing what people have to say about the changes in regards to the graphics as this is a step away from the traditional BOF 2 look and more towards BOF 3 and 4 but also a more modern look (hopefully). If I get a lot of feedback that the new look is not working for BOF2, I can always scrap the 2.5 overhaul and focus more on content. Either way I hope to get some feedback!

I love the new look and I'm super excited to give this version a whirl when you complete it. Also, this is a bit late to throw out there as an idea, but is a master system possible like Bof 3 had? That'd be pretty neat to see.

I actually entertained the idea for a master system because I have the foundation for one. The Shamans have two function: the first being you go to the tower and merge with them to transform. The second is you can also "equip" the shamans in your inventory for partial transformations/stat boosts. I don't think it would be too hard to expand on it to the master system.

Yeah! And I mean, if you wanted to do like #3 did, there are plenty of named NPC's or special ones that could work as Master's to the party. The leader of the rangers guild, the head mage at the magic school Nina was in. Heck the HR director in the callosum even. He could be like the games Fahl that you unlocked after the whole poison dart debacle was over.

Watching this like a hawk! Just found your work and have been so stoked as BoF is my favorite series of all time, BoF 1 got me into gaming as a kid. Thank you so much for this!!
